Première Vision: Desolina Suter appointed fashion director

Paris, France - This month, Desolina Suter has joined the Première Vision team as fashion director.
Of dual French/Italian origin, she is an expert in materials, colours and trends, and has been Première Vision’s fashion correspondent in Italy for nearly 15 years. She will be in charge of coordinating the Première Vision fashion team, charged with:
• Planning the organization of forward-looking fashion information at a time of important changes to the Première Vision show calendar (Première Vision Paris will now be held in July instead of September). This involves developing seasonal directions in advance of the shows, in collaboration with international experts and professionals, and in association with exhibiting manufacturers.
• Adapting key seasonal, material and colour directions to the needs of the market, to provide concrete support to manufacturers as they develop their collections of materials.
• Developing new communication channels and tools to transmit Première Vision’s fashion information in an impactful manner to its target audiences: exhibiting manufacturers, designers and creative fashion and accessories brands and more.
Born in Geneva, Switzerland, to Franco-Italian parents, she grew up in Florence, Italy, where her secondary-school studies were focused on art and architecture. She then moved to France, her second homeland, where she earned a degree in textile design from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (ENSAD). She began her career as a textile designer for the Boussac Group, and later for Habitat, where she was named head of textiles for tableware and interior decoration.
Missing Italy, the other leading country for fashion and textile design, Suter decided to return to the land of her childhood. An admirer of Giorgio Armani’s work, she decided to simply go for it, and wrote to the designer personally to express how much she would like to work with him. Against all odds her letter met with a positive response, and she spent the next four years overseeing the development and launch of Armani’s home collection.
After working for four years at the Italian fashion house, and interested in taking on new projects and challenges, Suter founded her own Milan-based consulting firm, Uragano Studio, specialized in fashion, home and decoration. For 20 years, she has worked to imagine and propose creative solutions to inspire and assist professionals - industrialists and fashion and design brands - in developing their products.
During this time her clients included trade-show organizer Première Vision, where she represented Italian creation at the organizer’s international strategic-forecasting meetings each season for the past 15 years. Together with a panel of international experts, she helped shape both the inspirations and colour and material trends proposed to fashion industry professionals before and during the Première Vision shows. These trends are first revealed to exhibitors, to help guide the design and creation of their materials (yarns, fabrics, leathers, designs, components and accessories), and later to the brands that attend the shows, to help them build their fashion and accessory collections.
