Black Friday 2022: Further response
Boardriders
Durban, KZN, SA – "A lot of retailers have told me they didn't have a good Black Friday," said Boardriders sales and marketing manager Dane Patterson. "We had a fantastic period."
"Boardriders opened Black Friday to Boardriders Club members from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th and then to public from Monday 21st. They added styles daily to entice customers back. The BF period ended Sunday 27th.
"E-commerce was 75% up on the same period last year, and we spent the same amount promoting it as we did last year.
"The figures for the retail stores were a bit skewed because we used it as a period to liquidate older stock with substantial discounts - R49 for Sandals and R99 for closed shoes, for example.
"Our Quiksilver stores were 24% up on last year, and our Billabong stores were 215% up. People were coming in and spending thousands at a time.
"We sacrificed margin, but we cleared a lot of older stock."
Dodo Shoes
Kelli Kupritz, marketing director
Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA - Both our Dodos and Franco Ceccato chains were double digits up on 2021 which was double digits up on 2020. We had an excellent offer which our customers voted for with their feet.
It was extremely challenging trading during load shedding where sales had to be written up manually. Our staff worked extremely hard over this weekend. We ended our offer on Sunday night.
Here’s hoping for an excellent December period.
Kelly's Shoe Store
Nazeer Abraham, director
Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, SA - It had a good response this year - better than last year 2021.
