Boksburg, Gauteng, SA - Bioderm MK ALV, made by MK Quimica in Brazil and represented in SA by Rolfes Chemicals, provides cleaner, more bluish and equalized leathers, improving the appearance of the leather surface, and is the best technological alternative to replace the use of sodium chlorite in tanneries.
Why replace sodium chlorite? Products containing sodium chlorite are strong oxidizers that can react violently with reducing agents and when in contact with acids, these products release chlorine dioxide which is a toxic gas. Therefore, the use of these products requires great care in their application and handling. Bioderm MK ALV, on the other hand, is a biodegradable product, which is easy to apply and handle in the pickle stage and presents a performance similar to bleaching agents based on sodium chlorite at a concentration of 370 g/L.
Bioderm MK ALV is not classified as hazardous by ONU regulations. Thus handling and storage are safer, which makes the organisation of the working environment easier. Since it is not classified as dangerous goods (DG) for transport purposes, the entire logistics operation is easier, agile, and economic. Bioderm MK ALV reinforces the concept of sustainability, providing social responsibility, environmental protection and excellent economic results.

How does it work?
Bioderm MK ALV is a product with whitening, dispersing and equalising action. It bleaches the natural pigmentation of the hair and removes all residues present on the hide, dispersing them into the bath, avoiding redeposition and resulting in more even leathers. Thus, pickled hides are slightly lighter than in traditional processes.

How is it used?
Bioderm MK ALV can be used for processing fresh or salted hides. The amount to be used is determined by the thickness of the hides: using 0.6 to 0.8%, in full thickness, and 0.7 to 1.0% for grain splits. Bioderm MK ALV must be added at the beginning of the pickling process, along with the salt. Processing time ranges from 30 to 40 minutes. Right after that, the acids are added, and the process continues. It should not be used between acids as it can precipitate the dispersing polymer.

What are the advantages?

  • It is a product in powder form, easy to handle.
  • It is not classified as DG.
  • Combines the bleaching effect with the equalizing action.
  • Has fast action (30 to 40 minutes).
  • Does not consume acid, as it works at pH around 5 to 6.
  • It has differentiated hide cleaning performance.
  • Homogenises the wet-blue colour.
  • It has an excellent cost-benefit ratio.
  • Highlights Bleaching agent and equaliser for pickle use.
