Bata SA: Growth has nothing to do with Masterplan

S&V asked 16 footwear manufacturers to comment on any growth in their orders from chains – especially those that are part of the NCRF, which was a signatory to the Masterplan – since its launch 5 years ago. 2 manufacturers answered.
We are not actively part of the Masterplan, besides one meeting a few years back and a visit from the Minister, nothing further came to be of it due to the way it was structured.
Yes, we have grown YOY since COVID-19, but this has to do with our brands, increased marketing spend, and global strategy. Our local growth has nothing to do with Masterplan.
Growth has come from both local brands e.g. Toughees, and import brands e.g. Comfit. We as SA are still 90% local, but yes, imports are growing at a far faster rate.
