Els Agencies: Trying to get around late orders
Many footwear manufacturers which concentrate on producing women’s leather sandals for retail are “very quiet at the moment”, Attie Els owner of leather supplier Els Agencies said.
“They have fair orders for delivery from July on, but until then, they’re living off their reserves, trying to survive. The orders seem to come through later every year.
“Theoretically they need to diversify, to include winter ranges,” he said.
“To help them get their footwear out quickly when orders DO arrive, I supply them ahead of time, because leather shipments from India take 3 months. It means I have to wait for payment, but I’d rather supply early than have stock in my warehouse.
“However, I have had to cut back on fashion colours – at least until retail orders come through earlier.”
