21 businesses from Africa exhibited in Hong Kong in March. Of those, 4 were from Ethiopia and 3 were from Egypt.

The SA exhibitors were divided between finished goods exhibitors on a sponsored national pavilion in the Fashion Access hall, overseen by the SA Footwear & Leather Export Council (SAFLEC), and 3 leather chemicals and leather companies, exhibiting off their own bat at APLF.

The leather companies, 2 of whom responded to a request for comment, are old hands at APLF, and reported successful shows.

Only 1 of the finished goods companies had shown in Hong Kong before, and it reported a good show.

For the others, who collectively signed about R2m in orders, according to questionnaires supplied to SAFLEC, it was “quite positive”, SAFLEC executive director Nerisha Jairaj said.

The full list of African exhibitors was:
Ethiopia: Colba Tannery, Davimpex Enterprise Bahirdar Tannery PLC, Ethio-Leather Industry PLC (ELICO), and Friendship Tannery PLC.
Egypt: El Iman Tannery, Sarg Tannery for Import & Export and Leather Tanning, and The Egyptian German Co for Industries and Trading
South Africa: BVLK Apparel & Accessories, Fathima Khan Luxury, Infix Creations, Le Roux Leather, Minazana, NTE Company (Pty) Ltd, Petite French & Co., Purple Pot Designs, SA Footwear & Leather Export Council (SAFLEC), Seventyfour, Teplov Shoes & Dancewear, Thurling Investments, and Zambezi Grace. Mossop Leather was represented on the stand of one of its shareholders, India’s Rahman Group.
