You can’t help those who don’t help themselves
The International Trade Centre in Geneva spent a large amount of money in order to analyse the leather value chain in Mongolia. An extensive value chain study was made from the raising of the animals up to the finished product. The ITC presented a strategy proposal to the Government based on inputs from the sector. Among the many gaps it was agreed between the stakeholders that they lacked foreign representation and as a result/acknowledgement, a gesture was made to the tanneries and finished leather goods producers by offering in collaboration with the fair organisers a free-of-charge stand at both Lineapelle and APLF during the first months of 2024. Regretfully only a few stakeholders took advantage of this opportunity. Another similar proposal was made for Lineapelle next September but there were no companies interested. This is to show that if the stakeholders do not actively back their own words spent in a survey and actively participate in the development of their sector, everything remains buried in the hundreds of pages of documents and all the money spent is virtually wasted.
