UK Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists annual conference, AGM and dinner dance

The annual Conference, AGM and Dinner Dance of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists took place on 25-26th April in Glasgow.
This year, there was a 2-day programme that included a field trip to Scottish Leather Group on the afternoon of Day 1, when 30 delegates had the opportunity to learn about SLG’s heritage and world leading production at the Bridge of Weir facility.
The conference was attended by 78 delegates and this year’s Keynote Address was delivered by Dr Kerry Senior, Director of Leather UK and Secretary of the International Council of Tanners.
Other presentations on the day included topics such as milling machinery; wattle veg extracts; fine tuning of chrome; leather artifacts: saltless pickling and the value of independent research and knowledge transfer partnerships.
This year’s Axel Landmann Award was presented to Prof. Anthony Covington for his outstanding contribution to the leather industry.
Ian Michel (retired) was awarded the status of “Life Member” and Fellows Certificates were awarded to Barry Hay (Scottish Leather Group) and Deborah Taylor (Sustainable Leather Foundation).
During the evening Dinner Dance attended by 84 guests, the SLTC presidency was officially handed over from Prof. Will Wise to SLTC’s new President, Deborah Taylor.

The event was a huge success and calls for a return to Glasgow next year are already being received!
