ISTT updates tannery wastewater treatment course

Grahamstown, E. Cape, SA – Following the registration of Australian students, and as part of its conversion to a distance education/online international leather training provider, the International School of Tanning Technology (ISTT) has updated its tannery wastewater treatment course.
In conjunction with Johan Barnard’s Envirotan Water consultancy, ISTT has always offered a tannery wastewater treatment course as part of its range of training programmes.
Like ISTT owner Dr Clive Jackson-Moss, Barnard was with LIRI Technologies. When LIRI closed, he went on to head up one of the engineering departments at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth, running Envirotan part-time.
“Johan has a vast knowledge of wastewater treatment,” Dr Jackson-Moss said. “His input into the course has been invaluable. He still actively consults many different industries on how best to treat their effluent.
“Earlier this year, 4 students from a tannery in Australia registered on this course, and this necessitated an update, as well as to make it more international. ISTT will market this course globally and locally, as tanneries all over the world are facing environmental pressures.
“This course is run on the equivalent academic level of ISTT’s Basic Level courses, and will be expanded in complexity up to the next level of ISTT’s courses, namely an Intermediate Level course.”
