Topsoil expands into finished goods

Kafue, Zambia - Topsoil General Dealers Company established a hides and skins trading business in 2009. In 2022, with the help of the Crocodile Farmers Association of Zambia, it established a basic tannery to process lower grades crocodile skins into leather. The tannery installed capacity is 150 skins production per month from tan to finish.

In 2024, the company opened a small-scale leather products manufacturing department, producing mainly school shoes and other leather products like belts, wallets, bags, etc. Currently, the factory produces 15 pairs of school shoes per day.

The establishment of a leather products manufacturing department was supported by Prospero Zambia Limited.

The leather products manufacturing department is now a stand-alone company legally registered this year 2025 as Neatfit Leather Products Limited but as a subsidiary of Topsoil General Dealers.

The new company is headed jointly by two young ladies as CEOs, namely Dr. Mutale Catherine (BVM) contact

The company has a 5-year business expansion plan (2024-2028) to integrate leather and leather products manufacturing. When the tannery and shoe factory are fully fledged, it will be able to produce 64,000 pairs of school shoes per annum and increase the workforce to 35 employees from the current 18 employees for the 2 companies.

 

A 5-year plan envisages doubling the workforce and increasing production to around 300 pairs/day.
