As African leather manufacturers strive to grow their exports, the number which have qualified for ratings by the Leather Working Group (LWG) and the Sustainable Leather Foundation (SLF) is growing.

Partner organisations include tanneries which do not have certification, but which are allowed to join without certification as part of its AIM approach (Accessible, Inclusive, Modular), so that they can use its tools and support to prepare. SLF also has a standard partnership route for companies and organisations which are not audited (like ALLPI for example).
