Edcon changes: Still no confirmation

Johannesburg (SA) – Whether through coercion, hope that they might still have jobs, or confusion, Edcon has kept a tight lid on its staff restructuring programme.
A supplier said he had already shown his summer range to buyers who had been assigned new positions or were no longer there, and that he would have to do so again with a new group of buyers.
He identified 3 buyers in the Discount Division who had “definitely” been appointed, and 2 others who were “definitely” on their way out.
One of the latter group, however, said a further announcement was expected this Wednesday. Another source said “a final announcement” would be made this Friday, and a third weighed in with “we’ll be advised on the 7th (next Monday) for sure”. Information about the fate of even senior staff at the Edgars division is contradictory.
“We’re all phoning each other for news,” the supplier said. “No-one seems to know anything for sure.”
