NRCS road show for levy consultations

Pretoria (SA) – The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) will be holding ‘consultation sessions’ in Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town to discuss levies.
The invitation is to the “automotive, electro-technical, legal metrology, chemicals, mechanical and materials and food and associated industries”.         For footwear, it’s aimed at the safety footwear industry, where the NRCS is responsible for ensuring that all safety footwear sold in SA complies with SANS 20345 or equivalent international standards.
All safety footwear companies are compelled to pay a levy of between 29 cents and 32 cents per pair of footwear they manufacture or import. A number of footwear firms are withholding payment on the grounds that the NRCS is not performing.
