Über Gruvi ‘was deep in debt’

Cape Town (SA) – Manufacturer Über Gruvi went into voluntary liquidation on April 4 with liabilities of over R12 million and assets of R3.3 million, according to the statement of affairs prepared by Jochen Eckhoff of liquidator Summit Trust.
Unsecured trade creditors are owed over R5 million, and unsecured personal loans are close to another R1.3 million.
The 2 secured and preferent creditors are the IDC, owed around R5 million, and First National Bank, owed around R600 000.
The business’s main asset is its Pietermaritzburg property, valued at R2.5 million.
Several of its agents said winter sales were significantly up on last year, and that summer sales were also “healthy”. They also said they thought there was a potential buyer. However, Eckhoff said there was “no offer in writing”, and that “the liquidation process is in its very early stages”.
Details of the liquidation are available on Summit Trust’s website. – []

They Said It

"I'm recovering quite well and feeling quite spritely. This has prompted me to dive once more into the thankless task of renewing my critical commentary on local economic and political issues, as well as lending a supportive hand to my Dad in the business. Once more unto the breach....And all that jazz!" - Rafiq Hajat, Footwear Centre Ltd, Malawi, on his recovery from illness.
