DAFF to review leather import permits

Pretoria(SA) – The animal health department of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries is to review a policy requiring import permits for leather.
This follows enquiries by S&V following complaints by leather importers to SAFLIA that the Department of Customs & Excise late last year began demanding 'veterinary certificates' for imported leather.
After several email exchanges, the department today said: "This matter has been referred for discussion to the meeting of the Import Export Policy Unit of the Directorate Animal Health".
It is hoped there will be a response within a month.
