VF Corporation 'more than just Vans'

Denver, Colorado, USA – In response to relatively poor results by Vans, VF Corporation "is not just one brand", chairman, president and CEO Steven Rendle said in a Q2 2022 Earnings Call on 22 October.
The company's brands include 3 distributed in SA aside from Vans - Dickies, The North Face, and Timberland.
Vans delivered 7% growth which "did not meet our expectations", he said, although "our confidence in the long-term runway for Vans remains unchanged".
The North Face delivered 29% growth, Dickies "which continues to build on its incredible run" delivered 19% growth, and Timberland delivered 25% growth.

They Said It

"Thanks for your newsletter, it keeps the few independent shoe retailers left up to date. We don't really have many co-independents to discuss the footwear industry like we had when we started in 1972." - Reinhard Barnard, Model Shoes, Worcester, W. Cape, SA.

"AK, Abdul, Vanker, I don't mind. 'A rose would smell as sweet...' - I learnt that in Grade 2. Just don't call me Rose." - AK, or Abdul, or just maybe Rose Vanker, director of R. Faulks & Co. in Durban, KZN, SA, on what he prefers being called.

ABSA Agri Trends: Hides & skins prices

Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA (28 October 2021) - The current average hide price decreased by 4.3% to R5.11/kg from R5.34/kg a week ago. The current price is 42% lower than the average price a month ago and is 132% higher than the average price a year ago. The range of prices reported was as follows: Minimum price: R4.75 Maximum price: R5.80. Please note, we have changed our methodology and price levels are not directly comparable to previous prices that we reported on. Our methodology weighs the prices we collect according to the number of hides they sell in a month. This is done to make it more representative of the prevailing market price. NB* Hide prices are determined by the average of the RMAA (Red Meat Abattoir Association) and independent companies. - Marlene Louw, senior agricultural economist, and Nkhensani Mashimbyi, agricultural economist, Absa group.
