"The countdown to APLF has reached day -9. It’s only 9 days before the official opening of the fair. If you haven’t planned your presence yet, then it is about time that you take care of your future business and make the booking for your trip to Dubai. Flights to Dubai cost an average of € 700 and cheap hotels rate from € 250 to € 450 for 3 nights. Therefore the investment is less than € 1500 . Isn’t that worth it when you can meet hundreds of prospective buyers?" - Encouragement from leather commentator Sam Setter
Lonshoe closesCape Town, W. Cape, SA – Lonshoe Holdings (Pty) Ltd, which included London Shoes, Saxian Trading and Lipworths, 3 of the biggest names in footwear wholesaling in South Africa in the 1980s, went into voluntary liquidation last month, the company has confirmed.
Long weekend retailingJohannesburg, Gauteng, SA - Salma Muhammad of Bhamjee's Shoe Centre said Saturday had been "average - probably because lots of people are away for the weekend", but that yesterday was good, despite cold weather. "It's definitely worth opening, the store is full, all our sales people are on the floor. It's not fireworks, and I think there are still a lot of people away, but I'm sure it will end up better than a normal week day."
RetiredJohannesburg, Gauteng, SA – Mark Tovey, former Nike Golf MD at Global Golf, retired at the end of February. Best known as the captain of Bafana Bafana in the 1990s, he and Rohan Summers started Nike Golf under the First Serve Promotion banner in the third quarter of 2001.
They Said It"I saw Sam Setters' comments about APLF Dubai and African Companies lackadaisical response. I agree 101% with his views. I thought it was only Zimbabweans that thrived on 'freebies' but alarmed to note that SA has joined the African bandwagon." - A reaction by Bev Jack, retired former director of LAIFEZ, Harare, Zimbabwe, to Sam Setter's previous comment. "The Leather Shop. No prizes for an original name!!!!! My scientist’s non-creative brain at work." - Dr Clive Jackson-Moss, owner of the International School of Tanning Technology in Grahamstown, E. Cape, SA, and a shop for hobbyists and crafters in East London. It may not be very creative, but it is descriptive. And no-one else seems to have thought of it. "25th LeShow Moscow-2022 fair is rescheduled to June 28-30, 2022!!! Since the recently erupted Ukraine-Russia conflict in February 2022 continues to adversely affect the security & economic conditions worldwide, at this stage, we sadly foresee that organizing a successful & rewarding LeShow Moscow-2022 fair during May 2022 is almost impossible. Therefore, we regret to inform you that we have decided to postpone our 25 th LeShow Moscow-2022 fair that was announced to hold between May 11-13, 2022, to June 28-30, 2022 due to the emerging 'force majeure' conditions." - A press release from the Turkish organisers of the leather and fur winter outerwear fashion fair. Talk about optimism! Moving it to June? June next year - maybe. If Russia's economy hasn't regressed to bottom-end of Third World status.
