Brandz: It's concerning

Naseem Essack, member
Port Shepstone, KZN, SA – We've had a very disappointing start to the month.
We're trading well below last year month to date, and it's now very concerning. Hoping for a change in weather to move our winter stock.

Crossover: Last 2 months excellent, but...

Hashim Ismail, member
Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA – In terms of trade. March n April has been excellent. May started of good but has slowed down this week. Hopefully we have a blessed winter trade.

Wage negotiations

Progress in General Goods & Handbags, Tanning may be headed for arbitration

Duran, KZN, SA – In the General Goods & Handbag Sector, there is an agreement between the Employer Association and NULAW for a 7.25% increase in wages, but SACTWU wanted until 19 May to consider and accept the offer, Gerald Naidoo, general secretary of the National Bargaining Council of the Leather Industry of SA, said yesterday.
"There has been no agreement in the Tanning Sector, and there will be another meeting over 2 days (dates to be determined) where the first half day will be used to continue with negotiations and if no agreement is reached then the matter will proceed as a dispute with a CCMA commissioner presiding over the matter."
The second round of negotiations in the footwear sector take place on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

They Said It

"I fully support that it's a waste to destroy these goods; and fully aware that it's a gigantic task to monitor the distribution; maybe start with the Gift of the Givers and almost all Churches are actively involved during Covid and the KZN flood devastation: Burt Pretorius oversaw a huge distribution in Johannesburg; There are many others." - Bunny Ramsay, Equalisation Footwear, Durban, KZN, SA, commenting on the proposal by National Treasury and the DTIC to distribute seized illegal apparel imports to KZN's flood victims - a suggestion which drew reactions varying from lukewarm to hostile from industry associations.

"x has got to learn to solve its own problems." - Grade 10 schoolgirl who has been staying with us on her attitude to algebra and geometry. My feelings exactly.
