Easter trading: Positive signs

Kelli Kupritz, Dodo's
Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA - We had an excellent Easter weekend trade. Our stores were full of customers. It felt like “old” Easter. We are very grateful. Less load shedding? I think it could have had a slight effect, but I feel our customers were travelling, grants had been paid and we are very well stocked with excellent winter stock.

Matthew Muir, Matthew's Boutique
Hermanus, W. Cape, SA - Easter foot traffic was very busy actually, with lots of people in the store. Weather played a part because it wasn't beach weather, and in those circumstances, people shop. We normally don't expect a massive increase in sales over Easter, but having winter stock, and lots of it, did help. A lot of our international tourists have already left, so it was mostly local people, and people from Cape Town.

Stuart Daykin, Rip Curl SA
Durban, KZN, SA - We did see an upswing in trade across the country which was very positive but the holiday letting numbers being at 80% is questionable as the coastal region on our survey were at 60/ 65% occupancy.
We sold a lot of winter products which is exciting for the months ahead.

They Said It

"So after many months of moaning in my ear, here is something for you to publish." - Quintin Marais, Rolfes Leather, Boksburg, Gauteng, SA. The 'something' he refers to is a technical article which will appear in the May edition of S&V African Leather. With some people, getting contributions is like pulling teeth.
