Bata gives Power to Mr Price Sport

Pinetown, KZN, SA – Bata SA will supply its Power sports brand to the Mr Price Sport chain as “part of a 5-year growth strategy”, according to a release. Power is one of the brands Bata is reintroducing to SA.
The range Mr Price Sport will carry is “its latest collection of lifestyle to high-performance athletic shoes”.
Power is also currently sold via online retailer Zando.

Arno comeback planned

Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA – Arno, the men’s brand created by Villani Shoes, now owned by the Ismail Cassim & Sons Group, will be relaunched for summer, marketing manager Akbar Cassim said on Friday. “There are some exciting plans and developments,” he said. “Watch this space.”

Villani ‘would like to continue’

Johannesburg, Gauteng, SAMichele Di Lembo, who took over Villani Shoes after the death of his father, Marco, in 2021, would like to continue with the business, and is looking at bringing in new stock next year.
“I’m still supplying a few retailers from existing stock,” he said, “but I’m not doing much beyond covering overheads.
“I worked with my father, on-and-off, for over 4 years, I know the suppliers in Italy and Turkey, and I know the customers. I still have the Gian Luca men’s leather brand, and I would like to continue with that.
“Business at the moment is very difficult, and I also have a very small IT business to run, so I don’t expect to be able to give Villani the time it needs before the end of this year.”

Manufacturing

Slow for most

Pinetown, KZN, SA – Leather orders are below where they should be at this time of year, Rowan Allison of Midland Leather said last week.
“We hear that chains are sitting on stock from last winter,” he said. “Most of the bigger factories are quiet, although some of the smaller factories are quite busy, both ladies’ and men’s.
“There is business, but it’s subdued, and there isn’t any obvious sign of change.”

They Said It

"It starts off quietly, and then dies completely by lunch time." - Rowan Allison, Midland Leather, Durban, KZN, SA, describing business. I don’t think it’s original, but it was definitely heartfelt.
