Caprini to resume production

Durban, KZN, SA – Caprini Footwear is currently gearing up to resume production following a restructuring, and expects to be producing by month end, MD Sanjay Pattundeen said on Friday. “We have orders for 1200 pairs a day at the moment, and we have the capacity to increase that with demand.”
It will continue to make medium fashion, mostly synthetic upper women’s boots, shoes and sandals, “because that’s where the demand is”, he said.

Dr Jacob’s registering to supply Amazon

Pretoria, Gauteng, SA – In preparation for the arrival in SA of online retailer Amazon, at least 1 local footwear manufacturer has begun the process to register with it as a supplier.
Comfort footwear manufacturer Dr Jacob’s Comfort Shoes, which makes leather upper women’s sandals, shoes and clogs, already sells online via its own portal and via the online site onedayonly.co.za.
“That has been very helpful,” Dr Jacob’s member Peter Nashed said. “We supply a different style every 6 weeks, and sales vary between 150 and 350 pairs.”

They Said It

"All our wives are the financial directors." - Regan Govender, Paragon Footwear, Pietermaritzburg, KZN, SA. I was updating his directory entry, which lists Dione Govender as FD, but in fact, her current role is handling sales for Paragon’s new division, Paragon PPE.

ABSA Agri Trends: Hides & skins prices

Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA (20 June 2024) - The average hide price decreased by 0.55% to 3.21/kg from R3.23/kg a week ago. The current price is 0.05% lower than the average price a month ago and 5.9% lower than the average price a year ago. The range of prices reported was as follows: Minimum price: R3.00 Maximum price: R3.25. Price movements will be highly influenced by developments in the status of our animal diseases. Please note: Our methodology weighs the prices we collect according to the number of hides they sell in a month. This is done to make it more representative of the prevailing market price. NB* Hide prices are determined by the average of the RMAA (Red Meat Abattoir Association) and independent companies. - Marlene Louw, senior agricultural economist, and Nkhensani Mashimbyi, agricultural economist, and Zama Sangweni, agricultural economist, Absa group.
