Hotter to resume wholesale in SA

Cape Town, W. Cape, SA – English comfort footwear brand Hotter is restarting its wholesale operations in SA.
“We stopped our wholesale operations in Summer 2023 due to operational issues at Hotter UK which affected margins, making wholesaling impossible, and focused instead on our retail outlet and online shop,” said Hotter SA member Bruce Wilson last week.
“Hotter UK was eventually placed under administration and was subsequently bought by WoolOvers, a lifestyle retailer. We are now once again able to wholesale and are looking to expand our existing customer base especially in Gauteng, Durban and Bloemfontein. Hotter has been sold in SA for over 25 years through a network of independent retailers and attracts a very loyal customer base.”

‘Pre-election drop in demand still there’

Sergio Guerrera, Euro Industrials Pinetown, KZN, SA – In terms of commentary on business conditions…well what can I say? The year started off well with volumes considerably up from last year. Then we went into the April holidays and the wheels fell off. And they are still off!
The word on the street was that everybody had concerns about the elections at the end of May. Retailers were keeping stock on hand low…no one was committing until after the elections.
All I can say is that trading is tough – hopefully the 3rd and 4th quarters will pick up.

Hoka focuses on wholesale expansion as key retailers like Dick’s Sporting Goods and JD Sports add inventory

Footwear News, 26 July 2024 As Hoka continues its winning streak in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, Deckers Brands executives are laser focused on building its wholesale business.       On the company’s first quarter earnings call on Thursday, Deckers Brands’ incoming president and chief executive officer Stefano Caroti dubbed fiscal 2025 “a year of wholesale growth” for Hoka, adding that the star running brand is seeing an expansion of both shelf space and new doors within the segment this year.
Caroti also noted on Thursday that some of the retailers expanding Hoka distribution are Dick’s Sporting Goods, Foot Locker, Intersport in Europe, Top Sport in China, Sport Chek in Canada and JD Sports in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

ABSA Agri Trends: Hides & skins prices

Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA (25 July 2024) - The average hide price increased by 0.83% to 2.787/kg from R2.764/kg a week ago. The current price is 13.29% lower than the average price a month ago and 18.0% lower than the average price a year ago. The range of prices reported was as follows: Minimum price: R2.75 Maximum price: R3.00. Price movements will be highly influenced by developments in the status of our animal diseases. Please note: Our methodology weighs the prices we collect according to the number of hides they sell in a month. This is done to make it more representative of the prevailing market price. NB* Hide prices are determined by the average of the RMAA (Red Meat Abattoir Association) and independent companies. - Marlene Louw, senior agricultural economist, and Nkhensani Mashimbyi, agricultural economist, and Zama Sangweni, agricultural economist, Absa group.
