It’s tough, even at the top

Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA - Trading is moderately poor, even near the top of the price spectrum, according to Stan Kotkin of Stanbel, franchisee and distributor for Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.
“Calvin Klein sales are as not as good as last year,” he said, “but we have more stores, so our figures are similar. We’ve only had Tommy Hilfiger for a year – not even – so we don’t have a history to compare it with, but it has met our expectations so far.”
Stanbel now has 6 Calvin Klein flagship stores, and a further 2 underwear stores. It so far has 2 Tommy Hilfiger flagship stores. Stanbel acquired Tommy Hilfiger when PVH Corporation, which owns Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, ended its agreement with a previous Southern African franchisee.

SA Tool making heels for Froggie

Pietermaritzburg, KZN, SA – Unit maker SA Tool & Die is supplying Froggie manufacturer Michelle Footwear with heels and top pieces previously made by ABS and styrene heel maker Repurpose Innovate, which has closed.
“We are moulding the ABS heels and TPU top pieces that Frank Mellon was moulding for Michelle Footwear,” SA Tool’s Brian Lowson wrote. “We haven't bought any moulds from him. Michelle bought the moulds for their products. We are making about 420 pairs of heels a day when they need them. We've been running these for about 3 weeks now.”

They Said It

"I think that Shein and Temu have had such an effect on local retail that some of the chains have reduced the size of their footwear departments." - Garth Ribbink, Greenaways Natal, Durban, KZN, SA.
