Veldskoen ‘expecting new investors’ post June court case

Cape Town, W. Cape, SA – The court case in which a minority shareholder is seeking to have Veldskoen Shoes (Pty) Ltd placed in business rescue will be heard in the Cape High Court on 03 June after an earlier urgent application was postponed.
The shareholder is the Dorothea Charlottle Moors Family Trust, represented by Mauritius-based Adrian Moors. He is also a non-executive director, not involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
The majority shareholders and active partners are Nick Dreyer and Ross Zondagh.
“The minority shareholder doesn’t approve of the direction the company is taking, and is seeking to put the company in business rescue because we won’t currently repay his shareholder loan,” Zondagh said. “His loans, like ours, are subordinated, and aren’t due.
“His action has damaged the company, but not the brand. Like all businesses in South Africa, we have our challenges, but we’re paying all our suppliers and continuing with the business. We know how crucial it is to keep our suppliers and creditors happy, and no other creditor or supplier joined the Trust’s application.
“We’re looking forward to the resolution of this case because court cases unfortunately take time.
“The positive news is that we have 2 other parties, both South African, who wants to come on board as investors. Then we can continue to grow this business and employment in South Africa.”

Reactions to Green Cross article

Brian R. Zyster, retired
Cape Town, W. Cape, SA – Your article on Green Cross has brought back great memories for the role they played in the South African footwear industry.
I fondly remember Mr Zeppel as a visionary in the space that his company traded in.
My first connection with the company was that at the age of around 13 years old I was putting the shoes into boxes during the school holidays in a very small factory out in Salt River, Cape Town. A large number of my family members were employed by him. This pricked my excitement, and I spent over 50 years in the industry but never worked for the company but because of Mr Zeppel snr and his vision.
So sad to hear that this has now been deleted from our shores but I blame most of the corporate world for what has happened to the industry and is still happening. Non-core shoemakers are in charge of footwear manufacturing today. Accountants are in control.
     Shame on AVI.

They Said It

"This turnaround will be a marathon, not a sprint. But [new Nike MD Elliott] Hill is off to a slow start. Yesterday (March 20) marked his first full quarter at the helm and the first chance to update investors on how his ‘Win Now’ plan is faring. Revenue was down 9% for the third quarter, totalling £9.1bn ($11.3bn). In North America, Nike’s largest market, revenue decreased by 4%, while EMEA and Greater China were down 10% and 17%, respectively." - Report in thedrum.com.
