State footwear, leather goods tender closes

Pretoria, Gauteng, SA – RTR59-2026, A 3-year tender for the supply of footwear, leather goods, and leather, for various government departments, and issued by National Treasury, closed for bids on Friday.
The tender is for around 1.5 million pairs, 25 500 leather handbags, and smaller quantities of leather belts, leather ID holders, leather dress gloves, and leather leggings. There is also a tender for 1.5 million decimetres of corrected grain leather for the Department of Correctional Services’ footwear factory, sufficient for around 40 000 pairs.
With a few exceptions, all must be made locally, using local components unless none are available.

AFSIC ‘offers African businesses opportunity to pitch to investors’

AFSIC – The 12th Investing in Africa event will take place in London on 14 and 15 October, backed by British International Investment (BII), World Bank and Proparco and a wide range of corporate sponsors.
“AFSIC is recognized as the go-to platform for connecting African businesses and fund managers with global investors,” said Emma Rynn, event director of the organiser, Africa Events Ltd.
She said she was “sure there would be” representatives from the CTFL industries there “and probably some investors look into that area”.
Manufacturing Africa, the UK’s flagship economic development programme for Africa, will host a 90-minute Deals Pitch Room at AFSIC where investment-ready African manufacturing businesses will present their businesses directly to AFSIC’s investor base.

They Said It

"…Thought I may be able to help you out…my birthday is 26 November 1968 and I’m still alive so that will help in swinging the odds." - Gordon Stokes, Hi-Tec Sports Distributors, Cape Town, W. Cape, SA. He was responding to my plea for more people to submit their dates of birth following a week in which there were more ‘In Memoriam’ names than birthdays. The balance has been restored, but I ask anyone who’s birthdays don’t appear to let me have their dates.

"1000 words? That’s easy! Do you know how verbose lawyers are? I don’t know why they talk about lawyer’s ‘briefs’ – they’re anything but." - Roux Potgieter, an attorney at Strauss Daly in Cape Town, agreeing to write an article – hopefully a series of articles – on brand protection for S&V, planned to start in October.
