Counterfeit raid - no comment from attorneys

Pretoria, Gauteng, SA – Law firm Adams & Adams last week declined to provide any information on a raid on a Durban shoe factory which it had announced on Facebook on June 28.
The Facebook message read: "The South African Police Service (SAPS) in collaboration with the Adams & Adams Anti-Counterfeiting team shut down a manufacturing plant of counterfeit footwear in Durban. Large quantities of pairs of sandals, shoe components and machines were found and seized."
In response to queries from S&V Lebogang Thobye, account manager: media relations wrote: "With regard to your query, we unfortunately cannot provide additional information at the moment. We hope that you can understand that due to client confidentiality, the pure nature of anti-counterfeiting operations, as well as the recent implementation of the Protection of Personal information Act, Mr Budeli, Head of the Anti-Counterfeiting and Anti-Piracy Team at Adams & Adams cannot comment further on this matter.  I hope you understand, should you have any other queries please let me know."

Paramount: Closed following unrest

Manzini, Eswatini – Following unrest, Paramount Tailors & Outfitters has been closed since Tuesday last week, director Mitesh Valob said on Saturday. "We'll decide on Monday or Tuesday whether it's safe enough to re-open," he said. "What we're worried about is looting." He said some retailers were open, but aside from him, none of those S&V tried to contact on Saturday answered.
He said business had been "quiet" for the past 3 months.
"Normally the second half of the year is busier, but I don't know what to expect this year. Clothing is a luxury, money is tight, and we're at the top end. Consumers are buying less, and the more medium- to lower-priced brands are selling better than the more expensive ones."
He said Internet and social media connections were "very limited", but it wasn't clear whether that was a deliberate policy by the government.

Eagle Clothing: Things were going so well

By Paulo Da Silva, director
Cape Town, W. Cape, SA – Trade from March to Mid-June was fantastic and beyond our expectations. We were really on a beat and consumer confidence on the up again.
Unfortunately as soon as the Covid numbers started escalating in Gauteng ( even before the president's announcements of a lockdown ) we noticed a sharp decline and more so when the lockdowns were enforced.
Even though Gauteng seems to be the epicentre, this has not made it easier in any other province which directly points to the fact that consumers are in panic mode again across the country.
I feel that we as a nation have to come to terms and understood what is expected of us as citizens on how to prevent numbers increasing and avoiding interactions with other people.
This is going to be a tough 2 months ahead but I am optimistic about a bounce back in sales over the summer period this year.
We have had no shortages of supply thankfully. However, shipping and container prices have escalated through the roof! Unfortunately this will result in a increased cost of product and exceptionally difficult to offload to the ever struggling consumer.
Margins are being pressurized and overall consumers are looking for value.
On the brand side of things we only have our own label which is Eagle Clothing.

Richemont - acquisition of Delvaux

Stellenbosch, W. Cape, SA (30 June, 2021) – Richemont has acquired 100% of Delvaux, the Belgian luxury leather goods Maison, in a private transaction.
Established nearly two centuries ago in 1829, Delvaux is the oldest luxury leather goods Maison in the world. It has a unique heritage, expressed through the richness of its archives, and distinguishes itself through its exceptional savoir faire and creativity. In 1908, Delvaux was the first to file an official patent for a leather handbag and can thus be called the inventor of the modern luxury handbag.
Delvaux's leather pieces are crafted by skilled artisans in its workshops across Belgium and France, and mostly sold across a highly qualitative network of 50 boutiques worldwide. Richemont's acquisition will position Delvaux for its next stage of development, by enabling Delvaux to leverage the Group's global presence and digital capabilities, to develop its omnichannel opportunities and customer engagement.
